WEST HARBOUR ANNOUNCE DANIEL MANU AS 1ST GRADE COACH FOR 2012

The Club has moved forward in its preparations for the 2012 Season with confirmation of our major Coaching positions for the coming year. Club Head Coach John Lomax announced with excited anticipation last Thursday night that Daniel Manu was taking over as the 1st Grade Coach of the Pirates in 2012.

Daniel Manu has an impressive Rugby history having played 15 Tests for the Wallabies and earning 43 Caps for the NSW Waratahs between 1994 and 2000 in addition to having a long career in the Shute Shield Competition. In recent years, Daniel has undertaken the Assistant 1st Grade Coach roles at Manly and this year at Sydney University. In an address to current 1st Grade players at Concord Oval last night, Daniel said "I am honoured at the appointment and look forward to working with you to assist you in achieving your potential and provide you with opportunities for personal development and higher representative honours."

John also confirmed the appointment of former players Geoff Threlfo and Louise Ferris as coaches of our 1st Grade Colts side in 2012. Their appointments bring a huge amount of experience and enthusiasm to our Colts Program. Geoff is a Club stalwart having played over 300 Grade Games for the Club, coached at various levels and was recently a manager for 3 years with the NSW Waratahs. Louise is a legend in Australian Womens Rugby and was captain of the West Harbour side that won 7 consecutive premierships (1999-2005) in addition to being the half back for both the NSW and Australian Womens teams.

John Lomax said that the appointment of Daniel Manu was an exciting move forward for the Club and its future. "We had a very young and talented team in 2011, we have provided a positive way forward for the Club with the announcement of these coaching appointments and it is now up to our players to step up and be responsible for their off field preparations and on field performances".

Former West Harbour player Michael Rigney has taken over as Club Strength and Conditioning Coach from mid November. Michael has a Bachelor of Exercise Science and is currently undertaking a Master of Exercise Science (Strength & Conditioning) & a Master in Nutrition. He is also a lecturer in the School of Exercise Science at the Australian Catholic University. Michael's focus is to improve the strength and conditioning of each individual player while keeping them injury free and healthy.
